What is multi-level marketing?

Multi-level marketing (MLM) is a marketing method where the sales force is compensated not only for sales they generate but also for the sales of other salespeople that they recruit. This recruited sales force is referred to as the participant’s “downline”, and can provide multiple levels of compensation.

What are the common characteristics of a multi-level marketing organization?

Multi-level marketing organizations tend to make income representations that are not easily verified. Also, the salespeople are usually unable to demonstrate or even describe what they do for their money, which makes it difficult to verify claims. In many countries standard consumer protection laws don’t apply to MLM’s, and the consumer protection laws that do exist tend not to be followed by MLM’s.

How to get started with MLM/Network Marketing

( MLM Disclaimer: In no way I am saying network marketing is the best or only business model to go into, just sharing my opinion and thoughts. You are free to take from it what you want, use it as a reference, or ignore it completely)

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what network marketing is exactly, so let’s clear things up.

Network marketing is “a business model or marketing strategy in which a company distributes products through a network of distributors who earn income from their own retail sales of the product and from retail sales made by the distributors’ direct and indirect recruits. This recruited distributor system is called multilevel marketing (MLM) or network marketing.”

So this is not a business model where someone is “selling something” so to speak. It’s about sharing, educating, and adding value.

MLM/Network Marketing became popular as a compensation plan back in the 70s where distributors were encouraged to build teams by recruiting more people into their organization.

How to get started with a company and make money

One of the best ways to make money is by working for a company and selling your work (throughout this article we will refer to yourself as an “employee” and the company you work for as “the company”). Of course, there are lots of other ways, like cashier jobs, but we’ll get into those later.

The first step is to get an idea of what job you want. You have a lot of choices for this, but the vast majority are in sales or research/development. These are pretty much the only options if you’re under 18, so they’re good ones to start with. Other jobs that pay well include pharmacists and lawyers, but these are much, much harder to get into before you’re 18 because of the strict age restrictions.

The benefits of joining an MLM company

Starting your own MLM business can be highly rewarding. You are probably familiar with the traditional job working for someone else and getting paid a fixed salary or wage at the end of each month. This kind of employment is not enjoyed by many people, which is why network marketing has become so popular over recent years. However, there are many benefits of signing up with an MLM company that you might not have been aware of.

The first thing is that it gives you the opportunity to set your own hours and work as much or as little as you want. Gone are the days where you need to be at a certain place at a certain time for a certain number of hours, only able to do what your boss tells you.

There are also tax benefits when you’re working for yourself, making this kind of opportunity especially beneficial to new parents and people who have just started caring for an elderly relative full time. People can be paid for the hours that they work, meaning that it’s not just their free time that needs to come into the equation.

The disadvantages of joining an MLM  business

MLM (Multi-level marketing) is a business model that allows you to make money from home. It’s one of the most popular ways on the internet to make money online, and many people will tell you they’ve made a few bucks in MLM programs – but beware! There is a high price to pay for joining an MLM business.

The tagline is “Watch the company you keep” but they don’t tell you that joining an MLM will probably result in losing friends, relatives, or even your spouse! The cost of joining most MLM programs is minimal, usually under 100 US Dollars. However, since these companies are not open to the general public – you will need to personally know someone who is a part of this business, or some other way you may have found out about it.

Tips on how to be successful in your business

Succeeding in your business is the dream of every person who starts one. You will find that there are always challenges that you have to face along the way and it helps if you are well prepared before you start. There are many mistakes that people make when starting a business but here’s how to avoid them.

You must have the correct mindset

Many people try to be too many things at once. If you do this, it will mean that you are not really good at any one thing and your business life is likely to be chaotic. Instead of trying to pull off some great master plan, focus on getting one thing right before adding another.

Chase the passion not the money

It is all too easy to jump into something because it looks good financially. This is fine if you have studied your area in great detail and are certain that it will work out. However, if you are just trying to make a quick buck, then you are likely to do things wrong. The passion you have for your work will be a much better motivation to succeed.

The power of the team is important

Even if you are good at everything, it won’t do you any good if you don’t surround yourself with other talented people. A one-man business isn’t likely to succeed in anything complex very quickly. You need dedicated and skilled people if you want to take things to the next level.
